- The university opened in 1984, when a branch of the Odessa Agricultural Institute was organized in the city of Mykolaiv to satisfy the great need for specialists of agricultural production, namely agronomists, zooengineers, and economists. In 1991, the university had 2232 students and 126 teachers (today there are more than 8000 students and 400 teachers) and became an institution independent of the Odessa Agricultural Institute. In 1997, the institution received the highest IV accreditation level from the State Accreditation Commission of Ukraine, and in 1999 it received the status of Academy.
- By the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated August 19, 2002 No. 1208, the Mykolaiv State Agrarian University was formed on the foundation of the Academy.
- By the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated September 21, 2012 №555 / 2012, the Mykolaiv State Agrarian University was granted national status.
- Today, the Mykolaiv National Agrarian University is the leading educational and scientific institution of higher education in the South of Ukraine.

- Mykolayiv National Agrarian University has 12 educational buildings with a total area of 89731 sq. m, including 69,237 sq. m of training and laboratory facilities, 5 hostels, and 2,045 ha of arable land. The university has technically equipped modern classrooms (about 500 computers, with LCD TVs or projectors in each lecture hall), the Training Bank, the Educational accounting and other educational laboratories with a total area of 88.1 thousand square meters. The total area for 1 student is 14.6 sq.m. Study areas for each student is 11.2 square meters. The Mykolayiv National Agrarian University also owns four boiler houses. Autonomous heat-generating systems enable the university to provide comfortable living conditions in dormitories and study areas in educational buildings, and also allow the university to save up to 30% in heating costs.
- The university has its own motor-vehicle park, which is used both for education and for the production activity on agricultural land.
- The university consists of 6 institutions: the Research Institute of New Agro-Industrial Objects and Educational-Information Technologies, the Research Institute of Modern Technologies in the Agricultural Complex, the Educational and Scientific Institute of Economics and Management, the Scientific Institute for Innovative Technologies and the Content of Agrarian Education, and the Institute of Postgraduate Education.
- There are 10 working laboratories at the university and 17 educational and consulting departments in the region, which have their own premises and necessary educational equipment. 30 departments of the university have created 106 branches in the production. 25 branches of preparatory courses of the Faculty of pre-university training in the districts of the region provide training for university enrollees and future students.
- The university is made up of 4 colleges: Voznesenskiy, Mihiyskiy, Novobuzskiy, and Technologo-economic colleges, each with its own powerful material and technical base, including laboratories, research fields, training farms, training and repair workshops, etc.
- The university possesses modern technical equipment, including research laboratories, training laboratories, computer classrooms, lecture rooms, scientific and technical libraries.
- The University implements the provisions of the Bologna Declaration, according to which the training of students from the working professions is carried out (each student, according to the requirements of the Bologna Declaration, has the opportunity to get 1-2 working professions): operator of computer; secretary of the head (organizations, enterprises, institutions); driver of motor vehicles (category “B”); computer operator; locksmith from mechanization works; tractor driver/engineer of agricultural equipment (category “A”, “B”, “C”); electrician for the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment; fruit grower, florist; landscaper, machine milking operator; an operator of artificial insemination of animals and poultry; animal trainer; classifier of wool cloth and fluff.
- There are 10 Postgraduate specialties at the University: 08.00.03 – economics and management of the national economy; 08.00.04 – economics and management of enterprises (by types of economic activity; 08.00.05 – development of productive forces and regional economics; 03.00.13 – physiology of humans and animals; 03.00.15 – genetics (agricultural sciences); 06.01.01 – general agriculture; 06.01.03 – agronomy and agrophysics; 06.01.09 – crop production; 06.02.04 – technology of production of livestock products; 06.02.01 – breeding and selecting of animals. And doctoral degrees are available in 3 specialties: 08.00.03 – economics and management of the national economy; 06.02. 01 – breeding and selecting of animals; 06.02.04 – production of livestock products. In 2016, the university had licensed graduate studies in the specialties 051 Economics, 073 Management, 201 Agronomy, 204 Technology of production and processing of livestock products, and doctoral studies in the fields 051 Economics, 073 Management, 204 Technology of production and processing of livestock products.
- The University operates a specialized academic council D 38.806.01 for the defense doctoral dissertations in the following specialties: 08.00.03 – economics and management of the national economy, 08.00.04 – economics and management of enterprises, 08.00.05 – the development of productive forces and regional economics. The University also has specialized academic council D 38.806.02 for the defense of doctoral dissertations in specialties 06.02.04 – technology of production of livestock products and 06.02.01 – breeding and selecting of animals.
- The University publishes the scientific and practical journal “Bulletin of the Agrarian Science of the Black Sea Region” and the newspaper “Agrosvit.” It is the founder of the electronic scientific professional publication “Modern Economics” and co-founder of the International Scientific and Production Journal “Economics of AIC”.
- Since 2011, the student television channel “MNAU-TV” has been operating at the university. The channel produces the Digest of the Mykolaiv NAU, “Voice of the Student”, “Agrofactor” and others. Students of the University are winners of national-level short- films competitions.
- In order to introduce energy-saving technologies, as well as to reduce costs, the university created training and production workshops for the manufacture of cabinet furniture and doors made of PVC and aluminum. Creation of educational and production workshops were not only with the purpose of updating the material and technical base of the departments, but also of training students for various professions supported by the curriculum.
- In 2009, the university opened a new educational building with a total area of 5.2 thousand square meters.
- In 2012, the educational-scientific polygon of energy equipment was opened on the basis of the power engineering faculty.
- Mykolayiv National Agrarian University is the co-founder of the only scientific park of the Mykolayiv State Agricultural University in the south of Ukraine, “Agro Perspectiva.” This” significantly accelerated the development of the agroindustrial sector of the Southern Region’s economy and the process of integrating agrarian education, agrarian science, and agrarian production.
- Students, who always bring joy with their victories, are the greatest pride of the university. In the II level of the Olympiad and the second round of Student Scientific Works, the university’s students won more than 30 prize places annually during the last three years (38th in 2012, 40 in 2014, 39 in 2014, 38 in 2015, 40 in 2016, 2017-54).
- University students annually become scholars in the Victor Pinchuk Foundation program “Zavtra.UA”.
- In the annual regional scientific research competition of young scientists from the Mykolayiv region, 6 of 13 winners were young scientists from the University (2017).
- Through the initiative of student self-government bodies, the Youth Civil Organization “Create Kindness” and the Graduate Employment Center have been created at the University. The latter makes information about job vacancies of the Mykolayiv region available to each student of the Mykolayiv NAU through an electronic data bank.
- Today Mykolayiv National Agrarian University is the youngest among the agrarian universities of the III-IV level in south of Ukraine. The University is a powerful material and technical base, a center for innovative design, a source of human resources for both the Southern region and for the whole Ukraine. And most important is the activity of all students and scientific and pedagogical workers of the university. They combine common goals, ideas, and aspirations. The University prepares bachelors, specialists, and masters.
- Mykolaiv National Agrarian University is included in the State Register of Scientific Institutions, which is supported by the state (2017-2020).
- Mykolayiv National Agrarian University has 12 educational buildings and consists of 6 institutes: the Research Institute of New Agro-Industrial Objects and the Educational- information technology, research institute of modern technologies in agrarian and industrial complex, educational and scientific institute of economics and management, mechanical and technological educational-scientific institute, institute of postgraduate studies, research institute of innovative technology and agricultural education.
- The University is 61st in the rating of institutions of higher education of Ukraine “TOP 200 Ukraine 2018”.

- Over 80 scientific and pedagogical workers have state awards and honorary titles of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
